- Database Design and Development
- Web Design and Development
Assessment
The Computing Science course is assessed through two components, a class assignment and a final exam.
Assignment
The assignment is completed during class time and will take a maximum of 6 hours to complete.
It is worth 40 marks which is 33% of the overall 120 marks available for the course.
The assignment consists of three tasks. Task 1 is mandatory whereas only one of either Task 2 or Task 3 must be completed.
- Task 1: Software design and development — 25 marks
- Task 2: Database design and development — 15 marks (design orientated)
- Task 3: Web design and development — 15 marks (implementation orientated)
Database design has more marks allocated to the design area
Exam
The question paper is worth 80 marks, completing the remaining 66% of the overall marks available.
The exam is split into three sections:
- Section 1: Software Design and Development, and Computer Systems — 55 marks
- Section 2: Database Design and Development — 25 marks
- Section 3: Web Design and Development — 25 marks
Each section generally begins with simple questions worth few marks before progressing onto difficult questions requiring some problem-solving.
The exam is designed to test your understanding of the subject rather than the ability to recall knowledge.
